What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health and Wellness Director position at Social Opportunities and Active Recreation, Inc.?
The Social Opportunities and Active Recreation, Inc.'s (SOAR) Health and Wellness Director is responsible for the facilitation and growth of all aspects of the adult health and wellness program for SOAR's club members with developmental disabilities residing in Glynn and McIntosh counties.
The director designs and facilitates engaging and individualized programming focused on health and wellness for participants. He or she coordinates the effective use of volunteers and caregivers to maximize individulization. The director is responsible for all record-keeping related to the program. He or she provides a leadership presence at all club activities and provides regular and timely communication with club members, volunteers, club members' families, SOAR board of directors, and the community regarding relevant aspects of the program.
The position reports to the executive director.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Executing all essential job responsibilities in accordance with SOAR's administrative policies and with SOAR's compliance and ethics guidelines. Maintains confidentiality regarding all SOAR business, including sensitive information regarding SOAR participants and their families.
Developing engaging activities in consideration of the needs, abilities, and interests of the multi-generational participants. The design of activities shall offer a variety of formats, including small and large group settings and frequent integration with non-disabled peers. The director maintains written activity plans to be filed for current and future reference.
Researching new ideas for activities that focus on health and wellness, such as exercise, nutrition, recreational games, dance, music, and art, taking into consideration participants' suggestions.
Maintaining on-going quantitative and qualitative data collection to measure impact of the program along with preparing summary reports for grant reporting, as required. Data must be available for supervisor to review at all times.
Initiating and planning the monthly program calendar in collaboration with the SOAR board of directors as well as effectively sharing the calendar with all stakeholders.
Coordinating transportation and securing contracted transportation, when needed.
Maintaining accurate records and documentation as assigned by the supervisor, including daily schedule, attendance records for activities, roster of members with contact information, budget details, reports of activities and events, and other records as required.
Recruiting new club members to the program and ensuring compliance with intake procedures and registration requirements.
Attending monthly SOAR board of directors meetings and event committee meetings and providing updates of program and activities. Attending other meetings as directed by supervisor.
Preparing monthly electronic newsletters for stakeholders.
Collaborating and communicating in a timely manner with guest instructors and community partners.
Maintaining inventory of supplies.
Performing other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred. Preferred degrees include recreational therapy, special education, health sciences or related fields.
Successful experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in an educational or clinical setting, with relevant experience working with older students or adults preferred.
Excellent communication skills, written and oral, strong problem-solving skills, proficient technology skills such as spreadsheets, graphics, word processing, and desktop publishing. Enthusiastic, positive outlook.
Availability to coordinate a weekend activities one weekend per month.
Excellent time management and organizational skills with high self-motivation to accomplish the job requirements.
Skills to effectively work with a variety of stakeholders, including clients, parents, volunteers, caregivers, guest instructors, community partners, and SOAR board of directors.
Excellent public relations skills to represent SOAR in a professional way in the community.
