What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney Advisor position at Social Security Administration?
Social Security Administration programs offer protection against the risk of reduced income due to retirement, disability or death, and assist aged, blind, and disabled people in financial need. SSA offers challenging careers and professional advancement. Serve as an Attorney Advisor to one or more Administrative Law Judges in the Social Security Administration, Office of Hearing Operations. The Office of Hearings Operations is responsible for holding hearings, issuing decisions, and reviewing post-hearing appeals for claims filed under Titles II and XVI of the Social Security Act, as amended.
The Attorney Advisor assists and advises Administrative Law Judges on complex legal issues and drafts legally sufficient ALJ decisions. Legal writing constitutes a significant majority of the Attorney Advisor workload. The Attorney Advisor develops and implements legal strategies and reviews, analyzes, and develops cases. The Attorney Advisor also reviews Appeals Council remands as well as Federal Court orders and remands to ensure adherence to policy and recommend appropriate action. The Attorney Advisor position is open and available in the SSA OHO hearing office located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Key Requirements:
- US Citizenship is required.
- Background and or Security Investigation required.
- Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt.
- All Attorney positions in the Federal Government require Bar membership. Proof of membership in the bar must indicate a current active membership.
- Relocation expenses will not be paid.
- Telework eligible as determined by Agency policy.
