Packaging Specialist
Summary
The Packaging Specialist is responsible for all aspects of operating and maintaining the packaging equipment. This is a full-time position and an integral member of the production team. The Packaging Specialist must consistently follow set SOP’s, while troubleshooting issues as they come up. This position requires critical thinking, problem solving, and ability to work with a team. This position works closely with cellar and QA/QC teams to ensure product and process are running smoothly. Reports directly to the Packaging Manager.
Essential Duties
- Canning Beer
- Operating and troubleshooting packaging equipment
- Loading empty cans onto depalletizer
- Offloading and palletizing finished cans
- Organizing and cleaning packaging areas
- Maintaining accurate production documentation
- Kegging Beer
- Cleaning kegs
- Filling kegs
- Maintaining and troubleshooting packaging equipment
- Scheduling, and following up on all quarterly and preventative maintenance needed on equipment involved in packaging
- Assist with warehouse organization
- Build orders, fill trucks
- assist with inventory management
QUALIFICATIONS:

- The ability to communicate with other team members to prioritize and finish production tasks
- Mechanical aptitude with tools and equipment
- Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
- Ability take the initiative on projects and follow through to completion
- A self-starter mentality and exceptional drive
- Be able to work safely and efficiently in a wet, non climate-controlled environment, with hazardous chemicals and temperatures
- Regular, consistent availability to work eight (8) hour shifts, weekend availability
- Ability to work overtime and flexible schedule as needed according to production needs
- Drive the Forklift safely with pallets of kegs, cans, grains, and barrels
- Current, valid driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles
- Intimate knowledge of craft beer, beer styles, flavors and aromas, as well as the desire to learn more and become familiar with Societe Brewing Company’s production process, and beer portfolio
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as identification, receipts and instructional materials is required, as is the ability to effectively communicate with customers or employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations is required. Problem-solving within the parameters of one’s scope of responsibilities for this position is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to stand for long periods of time, walk, use their hands to handle materials, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will frequently be required to talk or hear, and will occasionally be required to taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or push or pull up 50L kegs (weighing 140 pounds each), though adequate tools and assistance will be provided, when possible, to ease this process. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust optical focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to Hazardous chemicals, and water temperatures of 200 degrees. Employee will be required to go into the cold box—which is kept at 40 degrees Fahrenheit—for periods of up to 30 minutes at a time. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work ranges from moderate to very loud.
