Position Summary

The Journal of Neuroscience (JNeurosci) is a weekly subscription journal that publishes 50 issues per year, and eNeuro is an online-only, open access title launched in 2014. The Assistant, Editorial is responsible for processing submissions to both journals, facilitating peer review, and providing administrative support to editors and authors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the timely and fair scientific evaluation of submitted manuscripts by inviting qualified peer reviewers, resolving author or reviewer questions, and tracking review progress.
  • Maintains quality standards and policy compliance in published articles through careful quality check process.
  • Oversees the invoicing and collection of publication fees.
  • Ensures article metadata is correct and complete and verifies information as needed.
  • Collects author licensing agreements and serves as a resource to authors and institutions on rights and reuse policies.
  • Provides prompt, high-quality customer service to authors, readers, editors, reviewers, and other journal contacts.
  • Supports the Peer Review Manager and Editorial Boards through reporting, drafting meeting minutes, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains and updates process documentation as needed.
  • Works under direct supervision to perform technical or support tasks.
  • Performs administrative or specialized support tasks in an office setting.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in a related field is preferred.
  • 0-1 years of work experience

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge and the ability to gain proficiency in technical or specialized skills in relevant area along with a focus on developing an understanding of SfN.
  • Excellent customer service, including the ability to maintain a professional demeanor while managing difficult situations.
  • Must be able to work constructively with editors and staff in other areas as needed.
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines while achieving a high standard of quality and accuracy.
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and proactive in solving problems.
  • Must be able to set priorities and work independently with the ability to receive and productively respond to regular direction and supervisory support.
  • Demonstrated effective business communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
  • The ability to work in a fast paced, small team environment is essential and required, including handling multiple projects at once and being flexible in prioritizing assignments.

  • Remote: Employees can work remotely in the U.S. as part of a 35-hour workweek with core hours from 10am-3pm Eastern time. A reliable high-speed internet connection is essential.

  • During SfN’s Annual Meeting, the employee may do extensive walking, sitting, and lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds.
