Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Marketing Director, the Senior Marketing Operations Specialist at Science News Media Group is responsible for supporting marketing automation, maintaining data quality, managing customer data platforms (CDPs) and subscription management platforms, and providing performance insights for marketing initiatives. This role focuses on campaign execution, reporting, and ensuring accurate marketing data to drive reader engagement and revenue growth. The ideal candidate will have experience working with marketing automation platforms and will collaborate across teams to optimize email marketing activities, marketing technologies, and data management.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing Automation Support: Execute and optimize email marketing campaigns using a marketing automation platform.
  • Technology & Integration Support: Help manage and improve marketing automation workflows and integrations with CRM and other systems.
  • Customer Data & Subscription Management: Oversee digital subscription management platforms, ensuring data accuracy, segmentation, and reporting.
  • Data Management: Maintain data integrity through cleansing, enrichment, and quality control processes.
  • Campaign Performance Analysis: Monitor marketing KPIs, analyze trends, and provide recommendations to improve campaign effectiveness.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with marketing, fundraising, and digital teams to align data strategies and optimize engagement.
  • Compliance & Best Practices: Ensure adherence to data privacy regulations and marketing compliance standards.
  • Reporting & Insights: Generate reports and dashboards to track marketing performance and present findings to key stakeholders.
    Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Four years of professional work experience, including 2 years of working in a marketing automation platform such as Microsoft Customer Insights, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or HubSpot.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, or SQL.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret marketing data and translate insights into action.
  • Experience with data segmentation, reporting, and campaign performance measurement.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation tools, CRM systems, and database management.
  • Knowledge of CAN-SPAM and data privacy regulations.
  • High level of professionalism and time management skills.
  • Passion for learning and experimenting with marketing technology (MarTech) systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work cross-functionally.

Optional skills:

  • Experience managing website engagement platforms such as Zephr or Piano.
  • Basic knowledge of Python for data analysis and automation is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of WordPress is a plus.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a College or University or four years of related experience

Position Type and Expected Hours

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal office hours of the Society. Light travel for some of the organization's events is necessary in this position.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee usually works in an office setting. Our office is located in Washington, D.C. near the Dupont Circle and Farragut North Metro stations. The Society is operating on a hybrid work schedule.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer and other office equipment.

Additional Information

Salary : $76,135 - $85,650
