University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC) and WittKieffer have partnered in the search for a dynamic, distinguished physician executive to serve as the next Executive Medical Director of Perioperative Services for University of Iowa Medical Center North Liberty (MCNL), UIHC's new Orthopedic Hospital and affiliated clinics. This physician leader will oversee the daily operations in the operating room suite and guide preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care processes for the MCNL Operating Rooms.
The Executive Medical Director of Perioperative Services role will afford the successful candidate the opportunity to be part of the nationally recognized UIHC, which currently boasts revenues of more than $3.5 billion and is the only comprehensive academic medical center in Iowa. UI Health Care is expanding to support growth in their geographical region, with the construction of the Medical Center North Liberty campus. The 60-acre, orthopedics focused campus, which is planned to open in summer 2025, will feature a three-story hospital and five-story medical office building with clinics as well as teaching and research facilities. The 470,000-square-foot facility in North Liberty also will include an emergency department, 36 inpatient beds, 84 exam rooms, 18 emergency care rooms, 12 operating rooms, drive-thru pharmacy, lab and imaging capabilities, and a cafeteria and other amenities for patients, visitors, and staff.
The Executive Medical Director of Perioperative Services will develop and maintain a strong relationship with the North Liberty leadership team and will work collaboratively with the MCNL Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) to facilitate the development and implementation of efforts to ensure the scope of the perioperative clinical enterprise is coordinated, integrated, and operationally efficient. This physician leader will develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, CRNAs, residents and fellows, nursing staff, and support team members. In addition, this leader will develop and advance a professional and respectful working environment.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership success in managing multi-professional teams along with a proven track record of operational success in an academic role. They will also have extensive experience managing operating rooms or operating room teams. An MD/DO or equivalent degree, Board Certification in Anesthesiology, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, and eligibility for licensure in the State of Iowa is required. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Carver College of Medicine.
