What is Aurelius Systems?
Aurelius Systems is a directed energy company developing edge-deployed laser systems for cUAS applications. We shoot down drones with laser guns.
Why?
The US and our allies have prepared for a world where we will be fighting increasingly large and sophisticated systems (Planes, Aircraft carriers, etc), but this world never came. The future of warfare will involve large numbers of small-scale and mass-manufacturable drones, and we aren’t prepared to defend our country from these threats abroad or domestically. Aurelius Systems has set out to address this problem by equipping the US and our allies with the systems they need to fight current and future conflicts in a scalable and cost-effective manner.
Our Status
We are an early stage startup that’s recently closed our first capital raise, and are actively expanding the team to develop our first product - an AI laser sentinel. We are a team of 5 currently, and will increase to 7 or so in the near term. We work a standard 9AM to 7PM schedule from Monday through Saturday. This is a fast-paced startup environment and the whole team is onboard with this schedule.
Job Description
We are building out the first team at Aurelius, and need engineers to help develop our first product MVP. Yes, you will be building a laser gun.
This opening is for a Laser Engineer with experience in EECS, optics, photonics, laser system development, and / or robotics. This person will be simulating and designing new laser systems, retrofitting existing systems to maximize power down-range. This person will be familiar with laser physics in at least a basic capacity and be ready to do laser work that no one has done before. You will be modifying systems that output 10kW .
This is a generalist engineering role that will require self-direction and adaptability. We do hire for technical skills, but are huge believers in the power of learning quickly. If you’re passionate about our mission, please apply even if you’re not the perfect cookie-cutter candidate.
Qualifications
- Hyper-engineer
- Evidence of self-directed mechanical and electrical projects
- Experience working with a variety of electronics, including laser systems, optics, gratings, and industrial laser lab techniques.
- US Citizen

Compensation
Base compensation for this role is between $100,000-120,000 with additional equity compensation.
