Position: Non-CDL Box Truck Driver
Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
As a valued member of our Transportation Team, the Non-CDL Box Truck Driver reports directly to our Transportation Supervisor. In this role, you will play a crucial part in our mission by picking up donations and delivering furniture to our neighbors in need. Job Duties:
- Safe Driving: Safely operate our vehicles to collect and deliver donated items, ensuring a smooth experience for our donors. Follow traffic laws and established transportation procedures to prioritize safety at all times
- Equipment Handling: Effectively use lift gates, dollies, pallet jacks, and forklifts as needed to assist in the loading and unloading process.
- Donation Pickup and Delivery: Pick up donations and deliver furniture to our neighbors. treating every interaction with kindness and respect helping to strengthen community ties and encourage ongoing support for SVdP and our important mission.
- Loading and Unloading: Properly packing and unpacking furniture and other donations with care, maximizing efficiency in loading and unloading donations while using appropriate padding and straps to protect items during transport. Make sure all items are properly secured in the truck to prevent damage while on the road.
- Trip Planning: Strategically plan your routes to ensure you have the right skids and gaylords on board, making each trip as efficient as possible. Use maps and GPS to follow directions efficiently. Ensure all necessary equipment, such as dollies, straps, and load bars, is loaded before heading out.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct vehicle inspections at the start and end of your shift, reporting any mechanical issues and ensuring supplies like gas and oil are in order. Keep the trucks organized and clean, ensuring a safe and efficient workspace.
- Processing Center Support: Assist in the processing center as needed, including:
- Operating baling and compacting machinery.
- Using mechanized and hand forklifts safely.
- Helping customers load their purchases into their vehicles.
- Sorting incoming merchandise and discarding items that can’t be sold.
- Greeting donors and assisting them with their donations.
- Additional Duties: Embrace a flexible mindset, ready to take on other tasks as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Driving Proficiency: You must be capable of safely operating cargo vans and box trucks. This includes holding a valid driver’s license, maintaining a clean motor vehicle record (MVR), passing a criminal background check and drug test, and being eligible for our auto insurance policy.
- DOT Compliance: Adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements including successfully completing and keeping an annual DOT physical examination, which is covered by us.
- Physical Capability: This position is physically demanding and requires you to lift heavy objects of varying shapes and sizes repeatedly over extended periods. You must be able to lift up to 75 pounds regularly, with assistance available for heavier items. This role involves physical activities such as climbing, lifting, and moving.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential for interacting effectively with donors and team members.
- Safety Compliance: It is essential that you are able to understand and fully comply with all company safety directives to ensure a safe working environment.
- Flexibility: You should be able to work as scheduled and demonstrate flexibility to meet team needs. You may be required to work evenings and weekends.
