Description
The Utilities Locator performs skilled activities related to locating Socket’s fiber plant, based on the laws and regulations set out by the State of Missouri. Familiarity with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures is expected.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Responsible for locating underground utility lines for Fiber Plant
- Uses utility maps, as-built civil engineering drawings, G.I.S. information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment
- Utilizes stakes, flags, and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities
- Prepares various reports, forms, and memos to document work completed, problems encountered and/or resolved
- Verifies field information and notifies the designated parties regarding updates and corrections
- Investigates and prepares detailed written documentation on excavation(s) which results in damage to underground utilities
- Operates and maintains mechanical and electronic equipment
- Must be available to work varying schedules, overtime, and on-call duty, as required
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Knowledge of:
- Utility locating practices and procedures
- G.I.S., G.P.S.
- Materials, equipment, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utilities
- Socket required safety procedures
- Applicable state and local vehicle ordinances
- Basic construction practices
Skill in:
- Operating and maintaining electronic equipment used in locating underground utilities
- Using a computer and related software to:
- Read and interpret utility maps and as-built civil engineering drawings
- Locate underground utilities using multiple methods of locating
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Maintain small to medium-sized equipment and trucks
- Complete paperwork and documentation
- Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two years of directly related maintenance or utility locating experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Missouri driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires heavy walking and lifting up to 40lbs.
