High School English Teacher
Socrates Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable High School English teacher to join our team. Ideal candidates will bring expertise in English language arts, with a strong background in teaching literature, writing, and other related content areas at the high school level. Our curriculum is grounded in the Socratic method, encouraging critical thinking and dynamic classroom discussions. Students are grouped based on ability and grade levels, ranging from grades 9 to 12. Candidates should be energetic, progressive-minded, and willing to collaborate with both horizontal (grade-level) and vertical (cross-grade) teams to enhance student learning.
Job responsibilities include:
- Teach courses in English language and literature, including linguistics and comparative literature
- Collaborate in the planning of unit lessons and grade-level curriculum development
- Demonstrate a strong understanding and implementation of Common Core standards and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- Explore a range of genres, themes, literary elements, and writing styles to expand students' perspectives and interests in literature; assign readings and lead discussions
- Analyze student data to inform instruction and improve outcomes
- Deliver engaging lessons using lectures, demonstrations, and audiovisual tools
- Maintain classroom management aligned with a school-wide positive behavior support model
- Utilize technology to enhance learning and student engagement
- Provide differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Stay up-to-date with curriculum developments and educational trends through ongoing professional development
- Participate in professional learning communities and collaborative professional development opportunities
Job requirements include:
- Experience teaching beyond a basal curriculum
- Deep knowledge of Common Core standards and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- A willingness to teach within a collaborative team model
- Ability to work in a highly cooperative and collaborative school environment
Exceptional candidates will:
- Have at least two years of teaching experience in a High School English setting
- Show a passion for education and a commitment to supporting student achievement
- Demonstrate a history of collaboration and effective teaching practice
- Hold an NC Teaching License for Secondary ELA, Grades 9-12
- Possess an undergraduate degree in English, ELA education, literature, or a closely related field
