Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic II
Position Function:
Operates above and beyond the Maintenance Mechanic I position by not only performing various routine maintenance assignments and assisting other Engineering personnel in the repair and maintenance of physical structures, equipment, and fixtures of the facility and grounds, but also is responsible for supporting key critical and Life Safety systems within the Facility.
Comply with Sodexo and Sharp Healthcare prescribed and published work rules, policies, procedures and safety practices.
Position Summary:
- Performs the duties of Maintenance Mechanic I and performs maintenance service or repairs in one or more skill areas, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical system repairs or installations, machine servicing, fire door and hardware maintenance, servicing and installation, fire life safety systems and compliance, pneumatic tube systems, and kitchen equipment and systems.
- Provides assistance and support to other tradesmen as required.
- Ensures fire and life safety and infection control within the facility and works in a manner consistent with safe work practices.
- Work from written requisitions or verbal instructions.
- Prioritize urgency of work requests.
- Performs general engineering/maintenance duties as required by facility needs; i.e., plumbing, electrical, bed repair, basic millwright, medical gas repair/delivery, locksmith, etc.…
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance work request as assigned on a wide range of equipment/systems that fall under the Engineering Department responsibilities.
- Provide light carpentry duties; install shelving, repair windows, screens, blinds, drywall suspended ceilings, etc...
- Operate a variety of power and hand tools.
- Performs area assignment inspections and assessments.
- Recommends the requisitions of new parts and equipment.
- Maintains shop, equipment, tools and work area cleanliness and orderly condition.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures, practices, policies and regulations.
- Completes all work requests safely and efficiently within the required time frame. All jobs completed in a professional manner and areas left clean and orderly.
- Performs required servicing operations.
- Maintains necessary logs and records.
- Make rounds of building and related equipment.
- Processes and completes daily worksheets in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates dependability and teamwork skills through cooperation and self-motivation.
- Participates in achieving department objectives and goals.
- Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
- Inspects completed repairs, provides root cause failure analysis and detailed report of actions taken.
- Respond to all facility emergency codes.
- Attend facility-sponsored training in Blood Borne Pathogens, Infection Control, Fire Safety, Right-To-Know, and Chemical Hygiene.
- Complete all annual safety, regulatory and compliance training by assigned due dates
- Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department/facility.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Applies advanced skills using tools and equipment appropriate for the position.
- Ability to effectively communicate policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by fellow employees.

- Advanced understanding of the safe, effective and proper use and operation of general hand tools.
- Intermediate technological skills to include but not limited to the use and operation of electronic communication, tools, and devices.
- Must be experienced with mechanical, electrical, plumbing equipment and machinery and be able to read and interpret technical manuals, data sheets and blue-prints.
- Knowledge of present electrical, building, fire and life safety codes.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate verbally in English.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED or equivalent vocational trade school training. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience, with a minimum of one (1) year in a healthcare setting, working, maintaining, and operating mechanical, electrical, plumbing equipment and systems in facilities maintenance, with specific knowledge in the use of power and hand tools.
Supervision
Works under the direction of established departmental leadership and follows standard procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

General Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance service or repairs in one or more skill areas, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting and plastering, machine servicing, electrical repairs or installations, or vehicle servicing.
- Performs tasks such as but not limited to changing light bulbs, installing paper dispenser units, changing filters, changing locks on doors, minor decorative maintenance and other tasks not requiring a licensed skilled trades person or journeyman.
- Cleans and lubricates parts.
- Identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions with management oversight.
- Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
- Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
- Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
