Data Engineer

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Data Engineer for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier Financial Services clients in Tampa, FL.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a seasoned Data Strategy, Architecture & Engineering professional with deep and varied experience in the field of Enterprise Data Engineering & solutioning including Cloud hosted solutions, Data Warehousing, Data Lake, and Lakehouse models. This person will serve as a trusted counsel for me (Head of HR Data Engineering) , my CDO (Chief Data Officer) and my directs (Engineering Managers) – He/She will be trusted to look at our Data Transformation roadmap and provide feedback & suggestions.

• Develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with business objectives
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify data requirements and opportunities
• Design and implement cloud-based data warehousing, data lakes, and lake houses
• Ensure data architecture is scalable, secure, and high-performing
• Lead the evaluation and selection of modern data engineering tools and technologies
• Oversee the development and maintenance of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data integrations
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with industry standards
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to support data-driven decision-making
• Lead the implementation and optimization of data virtualization solutions like Starburst
• Ensure seamless data access and integration across disparate data sources
• Develop and enforce data governance policies, procedures, and standards
• Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with regulatory requirements
• Mentor and guide junior data engineers and architects
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
• Ability to make executive level presentations (fluent with quick decks, architecture sketches to sell ideas and drive adoption & consensus)
  
  

Required Skills:

• 15 - 20 years' experience in the field of Data warehousing & Data Engineering with large scale implementation success stories.
• Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Data warehousing (Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
• Data lakes (Hadoop, Spark, Presto)
• Lake houses (Databricks, Delta Lake)
• Data virtualization (Starburst, Denodo) & Data Security Frameworks
• Data engineering tools (Airflow, Beam, Spark)
• Programming languages (Python, Java, Scala) &
• API Management (Data Distribution) – API Versioning, API Management, provide API subscriptions / feeds (JSON, XML, CSV) with scalability & performance.
• AI/ML awareness and its applicability in Data Warehousing (data collection, storage, processing, and distribution)
