Job Description:
As the Data Engineer III, you are accountable to implement components of the enterprise data platform in accordance with the strategic data and analytics needs of Western Alliance Bank. This exciting opportunity requires the best of your data management and cloud data engineering skills to manage & support a cross-business unit data platform that is leveraged to improve our products and deliver insights.
As the Data Engineer III, you are a key contributor in a high-performing team of engineering & support professionals to ensure the Enterprise Data Platforms are safe, secure, compliant, & reliable. The team builds solutions to satisfy the complete data lifecycle management for our enterprise data platforms. You must demonstrate technical excellence and a high aptitude for continuous learning. You are required to know and/or learn modern automation and integration methods and tools, with Cloud-First design patterns, frameworks, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Essential Functions:
- Support data engineering and warehousing solutions that satisfy the full data lifecycle including efficient technical hygiene and the use of Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline development to automate build & deployment solutions for Enterprise Data Platform components.
- Provide break/fix support for Enterprise Data Platform components & identify opportunities to improve the health & hygiene of platforms & services the Enterprise Data & Analytics team develops & offers to the business to support our products & services.
- Ensure built-in quality and compliance-by-design in all data solutions.
- Ensure Enterprise Data Platforms & related services are maintained, leverage current versions of vendor software, & support availability requirements (e.g. DR Testing, etc).
- Facilitate deployment activities, ensuring smooth and efficient implementation of data solutions.
- Troubleshoot data pipelines to identify and resolve issues promptly, ensuring data integrity and reliability.
- Manage SSAS connectivity to Synapse, optimizing performance and ensuring seamless integration.
- Drive general operational enhancements in the Credit Admin space, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
- Collaborate with the larger Enterprise Data and Analytics team to support and enhance data solutions across the organization.
- Apply recommendations and designs from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture to data engineering solutions.
- Implement methods to include unstructured data and big data.
- Participate in business knowledge transfer sessions between developers and business users, and actively work with both to ensure clear concise operational procedure handoff, support guidelines and clearly documented support procedures.
- Support of ADF pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from different sources like SQL and Oracle to Azure Data Lake and then to Dynamics.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, MIS, or Data & Analytics
- 3-5 years' experience in data engineering specifically in Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) concepts and processes, enterprise data warehouse capabilities, database principles, and other related tools and technologies; preferably experience with SSIS and Azure Data Factory
- 3-5 years' experience implementing and supporting cloud data solutions; Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Services, and Azure DevOps experience preferred
- Experience with at least one RDBMS and query language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, Spark SQL
- Experience in conceptual, logical, and physical data design
- Experience with data science and analytics tools such as SPSS, SAS, Tableau, PowerBI
- Clear, concise communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Some knowledge of DevSecOps principles & the Azure DevOps platform.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications within Azure such as Azure Fundamentals, Azure Data Engineer, Azure Data Scientist, and/or Azure DevOps Engineer.
- Experience in Agile, SAFe, and/or Scrum.
- Experience with Python and associated software development toolkits and libraries.
- Familiarity with multi-cloud data management and transformation platforms or tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Matillion, etc.
- Banking or financial services industry experience or other highly regulated industry experience.
