The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) InvestmentDecision Support (IDS) team are the primary data stewards for the InvestmentsDepartment. IDS connects data toinvestment analysis by overseeing all aspects of the data management life cycle. They work closely with investment programs tounderstand their business data and decision support requirements, develop toolsto extract valuable and timely information, and continuously improve processesand systems to ensure high levels of data integrity and availability. The IDSteam is seeking seasoned SQL development expertise to successfully assist with ongoingbusiness initiatives.
Scope :
The InvestmentDecision Support team is seeking an experienced Senior ETL Developer with strong database, programming, and analytical skills to activelyparticipate in the following scope of work :
Assist withoverall ETL Support (development, production support, documentation) and otherdevelopment efforts as needed. Activities may include :
ETLProduction Support Monitor and maintain existing ETL processes.
CodeData Movement - Provide support in the design, development, and implementationof ETL packages with SSIS.
Development- SQL Development support to include creation of stored procedures, views, etc.
PerformanceTuning - Review existing SQL Queries, Execution Plans, Partitions, and Index(s)to determine performance enhancements for long running queries.
DataManipulation - Provide alternative options to existing data manipulationtechniques. Examples would be converting Excel manipulation activities intoSSIS packages that reduce process / cycle time of data preparation.
RequiredSkills
7 years of experience in ETL SQL development
Experience with SQL Server Integration Services
Experience writing technical documentation (requirements, process maps,etc.)
Excellent communicator and be able to produceclear and concise documentation
Demonstrated experience working in a teamenvironment
Demonstrated experience working independentlywith only high level guidance
Additional Preferred Skills
Experience with data governance best practices / procedures
Investment / financial market industry experience
This position will be on a contract basis for a period ofapproximately 12 months with the potential for an extension.
