Pavement Research Engineer

SaLUT has a current need for a full-time Pavement Research Technician responsible for operating the data collection and instrumentation systems for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, Virginia and this position contains the following duties and responsibilities.
Primary work duties include:
Manage the technical aspects of the PTF
o Set-up all necessary functions, equipment, and instrumentation for pavement test lane
experiments.
o Operate the Pavement Test Machines (PTMs).
o Coordinate material sampling and testing.
o Plan space and equipment optimization for efficient use and increased productivity.
o Oversee the operation and maintenance of the PTF and PTMs.
Includes assistance in the maintenance of the PTMs as needed.
Includes assistance in moving and repositioning PTM to new test locations.
o Compliance to safety and inspection.
Collecting and reporting experimental information
Collect data for pavement condition assessments.
Store, organize, and manage the data in the internal network PTF research database for analysis.
Position requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with electrical systems.
Good oral English communication skills.
Proficient in the use of computer control equipment and systems.
Knowledge in the use of data collection systems.
Knowledge in the storage and management of electronic data.
Knowledge of sensors (mechanical, electrical, wireless).
Ability to work individually or as a member of a team.
Physically capable to assist in moving the PTMs, installing pavement instrumentation and conducting in-situ test on pavements.
Education requirements:
At a minimum, the lead technician shall have an associate’s degree or 2 years’ related job
function experience, or a Bachelor’s of Science degree.

Working Hours: Normal Work Hours – Monday – Friday (anticipate 40 per week).
