SaLUT has a current need for a full-time Pavement Research Technician responsible for operating the data collection and instrumentation systems for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, Virginia and this position contains the following duties and responsibilities.

Primary work duties include:

 Manage the technical aspects of the PTF

o Set-up all necessary functions, equipment, and instrumentation for pavement test lane

experiments.

o Operate the Pavement Test Machines (PTMs).

o Coordinate material sampling and testing.

o Plan space and equipment optimization for efficient use and increased productivity.

o Oversee the operation and maintenance of the PTF and PTMs.

 Includes assistance in the maintenance of the PTMs as needed.

 Includes assistance in moving and repositioning PTM to new test locations.

o Compliance to safety and inspection.

 Collecting and reporting experimental information

 Collect data for pavement condition assessments.

 Store, organize, and manage the data in the internal network PTF research database for analysis.

Position requirements:

 Demonstrated knowledge and experience with electrical systems.

 Good oral English communication skills.

 Proficient in the use of computer control equipment and systems.

 Knowledge in the use of data collection systems.

 Knowledge in the storage and management of electronic data.

 Knowledge of sensors (mechanical, electrical, wireless).

 Ability to work individually or as a member of a team.

 Physically capable to assist in moving the PTMs, installing pavement instrumentation and conducting in-situ test on pavements.

Education requirements:

At a minimum, the lead technician shall have an associate’s degree or 2 years’ related job

function experience, or a Bachelor’s of Science degree.

Location: McLean, Virginia

Working Hours: Normal Work Hours – Monday – Friday (anticipate 40 per week).
