What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Inspector position at Soils & Structures?
This individual with specialized skills observes critical building or structural elements identified in the statement of special inspections for compliance with plans and specifications approved by the building official.
Job Responsibilities:
- Check the details of construction against submitted plans, codes, and standards.
- Special inspections apply principally to the structural framing system of the building. The structural framing system includes the foundation, walls, columns, floors, beams, trusses, and roof.
- Nonstructural components include fireproofing and EIFS
- Pre-installation verification testing of bolts
- Conduct structural testing for building foundations, walls, columns, floors, beams, trusses, and roof.
- Continuous education: CEU’s to renew certification, NDT certification, knowledge in the IBC, MBC, AISC Steel Construction Manual and AWS Welding Codes.
Qualifications:
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Excellent oral communication and written skills
- Great organization and detail oriented
- Lift, carry, or move up to 75lbs
- Ability to work at various heights
- Code knowledge and plan reading ability
- Increasing knowledge of testing and inspection procedures
- ICC Special Inspection Certificate preferred
- Field and/or laboratory experience preferred

Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour
