We are seeking a Commercial Packaging Engineer to join our Commercial Development team. This role supports structural packaging development, quality assurance, and process optimization for paperboard and corrugated packaging. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, familiarity with machine specifications and limitations, and a willingness to take ownership of packaging processes and quality documentation.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of paperboard and corrugated packaging that meets product protection, manufacturability, and automation requirements.
- Ensure packaging designs are aligned with equipment specifications and automation capabilities, optimizing for production efficiency.
- Support the development and maintenance of packaging-related processes and quality control procedures, contributing to consistency and continuous improvement.
- Participate in packaging performance testing, including structural integrity, line trials, and distribution simulations.
- Collaborate with teams in Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Commercial Development to ensure packaging solutions meet customer and internal requirements.
- Provide packaging-related support across all departments within the company, helping to align packaging initiatives with overall business needs.
- Work with material vendors and manufacturing partners to validate packaging performance, specifications, and compliance.
- Provide occasional on-site support at customer and Sojo manufacturing locations. Travel is required as needed for implementation and troubleshooting.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date packaging specs, CAD files, SOPs, and testing records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in structural packaging design, preferably with corrugated and paperboard applications.
- Proficiency with CAD software (ArtiosCAD preferred) and knowledge of die-cutting, gluing, printing, and converting processes.
- Solid understanding of machine capabilities and constraints in automated production environments.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to travel to customer and supplier sites.
