SPG is located at 1050 King Street West in Toronto. Currently, we work 2 days on site, 3 days from home. This arrangement is subject to change based on company needs with appropriate notice.

Join Solar Provider Group in building the future of sustainable energy! The Interconnection Specialist is an instrumental role at SPG that impacts a solar project's success throughout the development cycle.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Interconnection Specialist is the single point of contact with utilities, responsible for building relationships with utility representatives and coordinating all applications, communications and transactions with utilities.Solar energy interacts with land and the electrical grid. The Interconnection Specialist is the key subject matter expert at SPG on the electrical grid. The average interconnection time in the United States is five years. There are 3 times the total installed capacity waiting to be interconnected. In this challenging environment, SPG is looking for someone who can help overcome these obstacles by locating the areas with available interconnection capacity because we cannot afford to wait five years.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, submit and coordinate interconnection pre-applications and applications to utilities
- and land acquisition campaigns (e.g. interconnection queues, trackers, pre-apps, integrated resource plans, etc.)
- Identify regions within utility territories with available hosting capacity and favorable queue positions
- Maintaining current interconnection queue trackers
- Provide interconnection information for project budgeting and timelines
- Review and manage interconnection contracts and provide information to de-risk projects
- Ensure compliance with utility interconnection standards
- Ensure payments are made and documents uploaded/sent to the appropriate portal/coordinator before deadlines
- Analyze all available resources about the grid to identify regions suitable for solar development
- Build relationships and liaise with utilities to effectively manage interconnection processes
- Maintain records and dashboards for all relevant project documentation
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in engineering, experience in electricity infrastructure and grid architecture preferred
- Thorough understanding of grid infrastructure components and electrical engineering terminology, familiarity with US based utilities is a plus
- Knowledge and experience of ArcGIS or other GIS software is an asset

- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced work environment
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
