Position Title: Transportation Dispatcher and Operations Manager

Summary/Objective
Soldier On provides transportation for veterans in need within our Soldier On community as well as providing transportation for other community members in and out of Berkshire County. Soldier On is committed to changing the story for America’s homeless veteran population. Ensuring that homeless veterans and those at risk of being homeless have a roof over their head is a central part of that story, but having access to reliable transportation is just as vital.
This position plays a pivotal role in the transportation of our Veterans by actively monitoring the drivers and vehicles on the road each day to ensure the timely transportation of passengers. This position will be the point of contact for drivers while they are out on the road, and they will handle the daily issues that arise throughout the day. Additionally, this position will review schedules prior to them being performed to ensure efficiency and fill in gaps with more passengers where possible. Job duties are outlined below.
Supervision
Serves under the supervision of the Director of Transportation
Major Duties (essential job functions)
- Monitors the active rides being performed each day to ensure timely transportation. Adjust or alter schedules as needed.
- Maintains close communication with drivers and notifies them of changes to schedules.
- Serves as the main point of contact for drivers for immediate concerns such as running late or vehicle issues and responds to and takes immediate action to resolve problems reported by drivers.
- Monitor routes, traffic and job progress to adjust assignments as needed.
- Interacts with clients to address concerns.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintains accurate records of daily activities using scheduling software.
- Reports any damage or inoperative equipment immediately to the Director of Transportation.
- Understands how to operate the electronic drivers log on tablet/ often assists drivers with troubleshooting.
- Reviews upcoming schedules for potential issues and looks to fill in gaps with additional passengers.
- Clears schedules in scheduling system for next day transports.
- Reviews and confirms Medicaid rides performed the prior day.
- Manage phones for break times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED Qualifications
- 1-3 years’ relevant experience. (Familiarity with Dynamic Dispatching preferred)
- Valid driver's license required
- Pass a CORI check
- Pass an ESORI check
- Maintain a clean driving record
- Must be DOT medically cleared
- Pass a drug screening (including Marijuana)
- Must be available on Weekends and Holidays
- Ability to use such computer software programs as Microsoft Office and have a familiarity with scheduling software. Ability to multitask, listen and communicate effectively and problem solve. Ability to make decisions in the absence of the Director of Transportation.
Physical Qualifications
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle; feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which regularly may involve some movement of books, files or folders (15 pounds); regularly conveys information to the public. Tasks may involve extended periods of time on a keyboard or workstation. May also be required to drive in the event of a driver absence or other issues that would otherwise cause a passenger to miss a ride.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, work is often performed under typical office conditions with little exposure to occupational hazards. Some instances may require the operation of a motor vehicle.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is considered a full-time position. While the typical “office work week” would be roughly 7am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday, the actual “transportation week” (5am-6pm, Monday-Saturday) may likely result in a varied work week with days and hours to reflect workload or need depending on volume. Additionally, some evening work will be expected to ensure schedules are set for the next day. Equipment to perform this work remotely will be provided.
