What are the responsibilities and job description for the Road Maintenance Operator position at Soldier Township?
Soldier Township is located just north of the Topeka city limits, between 75 highway and K4 highway, and maintains over 125 miles of paved roads.
Our current work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
OPERATOR I
a) SUMMARY: Under immediate to general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in the operation of trucks and construction equipment and performs manual labor related to road maintenance and repair. Works with snow removal equipment and motor graders. Performs all other related work as required.
b) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Skillfully operates dump truck, high loader, roller, and tractor mower; operates skid steer loader where moderate skills are required, such as low-grade leveling, spreading base rock, shaping shoulders, operates asphalt distributor in routine work; hand patches potholes, seals cracks in pavement, cuts shrubs and trees; services equipment; fills out time sheets and equipment sheets. Other duties as assigned.
c) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Good knowledge of uses of tools, materials and equipment used in road maintenance and repair. Ability to operate listed equipment in routine uses requiring moderate skill; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
d) EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or GED.
e) CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possession of a valid Class A Kansas Commercial Driver’s License.

h) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Hiring conditional upon passing drug/alcohol testing and is subject to random testing throughout employment.
