Lab Technician
Position Summary
Performs all the necessary tasks to complete experimental and routine laboratory tests, analyses, sample preparation, data collection, and instrument calibration in the R&D Lab, QC Lab, Analytical Lab, Calibration Lab, and Pilot Plant.
Essential Functions
- Performs routine Quality Inspection testing for all our products and raw materials, following standard test procedures
- Performs routine Analytical testing for all our products and raw materials, following standard test procedures
- Documents inspection and test results
- Assists production operators with in process adjustments and rework plans when needed
- Maintains up to date inspection plans, written procedures, and methods
- Performs R&D Laboratory experiments, testing, and sample preparation
- Operates pilot plant equipment to produce experimental product samples and experimental data
- Calibrates measurement equipment and maintains calibration records
- Records and analyzes data, performs calculations and statistical analyses Maintains
- Maintains functional operating performance of the testing and laboratory equipment, performs minor adjustments or repairs, and requests maintenance and service when necessary
- Trains other personnel in the use of laboratory and pilot plant equipment and methods
- Writes, reviews, and revises standard testing and operational procedures
- Ensures that rules for safety and housekeeping are observed

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry or a related science plus 1 year laboratory experience; or
- Associates degree in laboratory technology or equivalent science and 3 years experience; or
- Five years minimum laboratory experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Computer skills
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Microsoft Outlook
- SysPro EPR system
- uniPoint Quality system
Working knowledge of Quality Assurance principles – e.g. ISO 9001, control charts, process capability, trend analysis, and frequency distribution
Language/Communication Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures/manuals, and government regulations.
- Ability to write reports, correspondence, test methods and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with other personnel, departments, customers, and vendors.
Mathematical Skills
- Mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, basic statistics, and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and probability.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

The employee must be able to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally be able to lift up to 75 pounds and move up to 500 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
