Position type: Full-Time (24/25 School Year)
Caseload: Junior High , 1:1 with a student with Cognitive Deficit
Pay range:$30 /hr; based on EIPA & experience
Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation services during classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and other educational settings to ensure effective munication for student
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa, conveying the content and intent accurately and maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all parties involved.
- Facilitate munication between studentand teachers, ensuring that students have equal access to academic instruction, classroom discussions, and other educational activities.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other educational professionals to ensure that classroom materials and resources are accessible to student.
- Support students in their understanding of and participation in classroom activities, providing clarification and additional explanations when needed.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other individualized plans for students, ensuring that appropriate acmodations and supports are provided.
- Provide assistance during assessments and testing situations, including interpreting exam questions, prompts, and instructions for student.
- Stay updated on current trends, practices, and educational resources related to ASL interpretation and deaf culture.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records related to interpreting services, including logs of interpreted sessions and student progress reports.
- Collaborate with other ASL interpreters, teachers, and support staff to develop strategies for improving munication and inclusion for student.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- EIPA score, RID or NIC. MUST have a 3.5 or higher on the EIPA
- Experience working as an ASL interpreter in an educational setting strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of educational terminology and instructional practices to effectively interpret academic content.
- Excellent munication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and staff.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the individual munication needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Sensitivity and respect for the unique needs and experiences of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Proficiency in using technology and interpreting software to support interpreting services.
- Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality.
