Key Responsibilities
- Assist with Evaluations and Assessments: Support the Occupational Therapist in conducting assessments to identify students needs, strengths, and challenges. Help gather information and data to assist in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Implement Therapy Plans: Carry out therapy interventions based on the goals outlined in students' IEPs. This includes promoting fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, handwriting, and activities of daily living (ADLs) in a school context.
- Provide Direct Support to Students: Work directly with students individually or in small groups to help them develop necessary skills for school participation, including classroom tasks, socialization, mobility, and self-care.
- Education:
- Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Licensure/Certification:
- Current certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- State licensure or certification to practice as a COTA in [Insert State].
- Experience:
- Previous experience working with children or in a school-based setting is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in providing therapy for students with a variety of disabilities, including physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional needs.
- Knowledge of school policies, special education law, and IEP processes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
