Job Description
We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide 1:1 care for a student with cognitive and behavioral delays in a school environment. The LPN will work closely with the student, school staff, and family to ensure the student's health, safety, and overall well-being throughout the school day. This position involves working directly with the student in the classroom, as well as providing assistance as needed during transitions, lunch, and other school activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to a student with cognitive and behavioral delays, addressing their medical needs and promoting overall well-being.
- Monitor and respond to any health or behavioral concerns, adapting to the students needs throughout the school day.
- Collaborate with teachers, school psychologists, and other professionals to develop and implement a care plan that supports the students learning and behavioral goals.
- Administer medications and manage medical treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor for any signs of health or emotional distress and intervene as needed.
- Document and maintain accurate records of medical care, interventions, and behavioral observations.
- Communicate regularly with the students family regarding health status and progress.
- Provide assistance in handling emergencies or medical situations, such as seizures or other medical events.
- Ensure the students physical and emotional safety throughout the school day.
- Assist with personal care tasks as necessary (e.g., feeding, mobility assistance, etc.).
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Illinois.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with cognitive and behavioral delays, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical, behavioral, and emotional needs of students with special education requirements.
- Ability to respond to emergencies calmly and effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with families, teachers, and school staff.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of student needs and environments.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
