Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct health services to students, including first aid, emergency care, and the management of chronic health conditions.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, maintaining accurate records in compliance with district policies and regulations.
- Develop and implement Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) for students with chronic conditions or special medical needs.
- Conduct health screenings and assessments (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis).
- Serve as a liaison between the school, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care for students.
- Educate students and staff on health issues, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Monitor and manage student immunization records and ensure compliance with state health regulations.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning, including the management of student health emergencies.
- Maintain confidential health records and follow all district policies regarding student privacy and confidentiality.
- Provide health education to students, staff, and families as needed.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Washington.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with children or in a school setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of common childhood health conditions, allergies, and medications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- School Nurse certification or experience working in a school health environment.
- Pediatric nursing experience.
- Familiarity with the school health programs and procedures in Washington state.
