The successful candidate will work closely with the student, teachers, and educational staff to ensure effective communication and support throughout the school day.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID, EIPA, NIC, or equivalent).
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities, particularly those with significant cognitive impairments, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and ability to interpret effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, support staff, and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or education in special education or related fields is a plus.
- Provide 1:1 sign language interpreting for a high school student with a significant cognitive disability.
- Facilitate communication between the student and teachers, peers, and staff using American Sign Language (ASL).
- Work alongside a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to support the students academic and social participation in the classroom.
- Collaborate with educational staff to adapt communication strategies that best support the student's individual needs.
- Ensure the student can actively participate in lessons, discussions, and activities by providing accurate and clear interpretation.
- Maintain professional confidentiality and respect the students privacy.
