Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction and services to students with visual impairments, ensuring their educational needs are met within the framework of district and state content standards.
- Perform orientation and mobility services for students in accordance with Colorado state guidelines.
- Instruct students in coordination with a standards-based curriculum.
- Develop, implement, and modify individualized education programs (IEPs) to address the unique learning styles and needs of students with visual impairments.
- Provide small group instruction and individualized interventions to support students' academic progress and social-emotional development.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support students with visual impairments and ensure a cohesive learning experience.
- Work closely with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to keep them informed about student progress, needs, and strategies for success.
- Maintain strong classroom management, ensuring a structured and supportive learning environment.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and stay up to date on best practices for teaching students with visual impairments.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Orientation and Mobility, or related field.
- Valid Colorado state certification as a Teacher of Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS).
- Experience working with students with visual impairments and disabilities is preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to work with diverse learners.
- Knowledge in assessment, IEP development, and individualized education planning.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills to work with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to support student success.
