Position Details
- Location: Alaska
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: Flexible, but immediate availability preferred
- Schedule: Variable shifts, including inpatient pharmacy duties
- Review prescriptions for appropriateness, legality, completeness, and safety, ensuring adherence to patient care standards.
- Provide clinical consultations to prescribers and clarify prescriptions as necessary.
- Counsel patients on medication usage, expected outcomes, and side effects to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Perform chart reviews for prescription refills and medication therapy management; document interventions thoroughly.
- Supervise and direct pharmacy support staff, including technicians and students, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in daily tasks.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in formulating departmental policies and procedures.
- Educate healthcare staff on drug therapy, provide drug information, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of formulary medications.
- Manage drug inventory, including selection, preparation, and control of medications.
- Support health promotion and disease prevention efforts through education and clinical services.
- Education: Pharm.D. required (Bachelor of Pharmacy with 3 years of hospital/clinic experience considered if licensed before 2003).
- License: Active Alaska pharmacist license in good standing.
- Vaccination: Flu vaccination is mandatory
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program is preferred.
- Experience:
- Expertise in inpatient pharmacy, with proficiency in reviewing patient charts, lab results, and medication orders.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, to interact effectively with patients and healthcare staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage interruptions and adapt to a dynamic workload.
- Proficiency in computer applications and math for accurate medication preparation and dosage calculations.
