Job Summary

To create a classroom environment that fosters and promotes an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. In addition, the position helps to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members and aligns to the SSDS Mission which states:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

• Teaches PE to Pre-K through eighth grade students.
• Integrates standards of physical education into the program.
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. 
• Communicates with parents to discuss students’ progress as needed.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities.
• Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed.
• Participates in curriculum development programs as required. 
• Demonstrates a commitment to best practice in all dimensions of effective teaching.
• Works cooperatively with the other physical education teacher in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
• Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
•  Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
• Maintains control of storage and use of school property.

Requirements

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university 

Illinois teaching certificate or equivalent teaching experience.

Experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
