Payroll Operations SME & Payroll Tax SME

SolomonEdwards is working with a large organization that is seeking a highly experienced Payroll Operations SME & Payroll Tax SME to assist with the integration of a recent acquisition. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in payroll operations and payroll tax management, with a proven track record of handling large employee bases of 40,000 or more, including hourly and union payrolls.
Key engagement responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the integration of payroll operations for the acquisition, ensuring seamless transition and integration.
- Manage and oversee end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. Provide expert guidance on payroll tax matters, including federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large and diverse employee base, including hourly and union employees.
- Collaborate with internal teams to streamline payroll processes and enhance operational efficiency.
- Utilize and manage payroll systems, specifically Oracle and MasterTax, or comparable systems, to ensure smooth payroll processing and reporting.
- Advise on payroll-related aspects of mergers and acquisitions, providing insight and support as needed.
- Develop and implement best practices for payroll operations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Skills and Requirements:
- Proven experience in payroll operations and payroll tax management at a manager level for 8-10 years.
- Extensive experience managing payroll for large employee bases (minimum of 40,000 employees preferred), including hourly and union payrolls.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes and operations.
- Familiarity with Oracle and MasterTax systems is a plus; experience with comparable systems is required.
- M&A experience is desirable but not mandatory. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Logistics:Hybrid 4 days in the office and remote on Friday (Houston, TX 77002 zip code); Pay range W2 $80-90 per hour DOE, top end pay must be an exceptional candidate. 6 -month contract engagement.
$80-90 per hour. The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, location and skill set of the individual selected for this position.
