Job Title: Hall Monitor
Position Type: Classified – Non-Instructional Aide – Salary Schedule
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is recommended.
- Ability to communicate and deal with students, staff, and the public in a congenial and positive manner.
- Experience working with adolescents; school district experience preferred.
- Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities, including clerical skills.
- Acceptable standards of emotional stability, moral character, sound health, and physical ability to perform necessary job responsibilities.
- Pleasant and dignified manner, neat appearance, and ability to adjust to change.
- Pupil Activity Permit from the Ohio Department of Education (required).
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to: Principal, Assistant Principal, or other assigned school administrator.
Job Summary: The Middle School Hall Monitor is responsible for ensuring a safe and orderly environment in the school’s corridors and common areas, including the cafeteria. This role involves monitoring student behavior, assisting with conflict resolution, and providing general support to the school staff. The Hall Monitor will serve as a positive role model for students and help maintain a conducive atmosphere for learning.
General Responsibilities:
- Supervise student behavior in hallways, stairwells, restrooms, cafeteria, and other common areas during school hours.
- Maintain a visible presence in assigned areas to deter inappropriate behavior.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public in a positive and professional manner.
- Report any suspicious activities, safety hazards, or violations of school policies to the appropriate authorities.
- Assist with the enforcement of school policies and procedures.
- Provide assistance to students in need and respond to emergencies as required.
- Perform clerical duties as needed, including maintaining records and preparing reports.
- Exhibit a pleasant and dignified manner, maintaining neat appearance and professionalism at all times.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor hallways and common areas during class transitions, lunch periods, and before and after school.
- Address and de-escalate conflicts or disturbances among students, referring serious issues to school administration.
- Ensure students have appropriate passes and are in designated areas.
- Assist with crowd control during school events and assemblies.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrative staff to support student supervision needs.
- Conduct routine checks of restrooms and other common areas to ensure they are safe and free of inappropriate activity.
- Assist with the supervision of students during arrival and dismissal times.
- Provide directions and assistance to visitors and new students.
- Monitor and report any maintenance or safety issues in the school building.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
