POSITION:
School Bus Driver/Transportation Vehicle Operator - Short Hours
POSITION TYPE:
Classified - Transportation - Grade III
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent is recommended.
Shall have a valid State of Ohio School Bus Operator’s License.
Shall have no more than 4 points accumulated on driver’s license and no recent DWI or DUI convictions on driver’s license.
Shall have the ability to communicate and deal with students and staff in a congenial and positive manner.
Shall exhibit acceptable standards of emotional stability, moral character, sound health and be physically able to perform necessary job responsibilities.
Shall be able to read, write and communicate in the English language and be able to follow written instructions, schedules and routes.
Shall have demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
Shall exhibit pleasant manners, be neat in appearance and have the ability to adjust to change.
Shall be dependable, articulate and punctual.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To be properly trained and licensed as a school bus operator, perform efficiently the prescribed duties pertaining to safe school bus driving, provide daily care to assigned vehicle and operate on schedules supplied by the Supervisor of Transportation.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Makes daily pre-trip inspection of school bus before leaving storage site.
Reports in writing to the Supervisor of Transportation all mechanical defects.
Keeps school bus clean and attractive, including daily sweeping.
Retains a working and accurate time piece when driving the school bus.
Demonstrates appropriate school bus driving skills.
Complies with all traffic laws.
Maintains and complies with current Ohio Pupil Transportation Operation Safety Rules and Board Policies.
Checks all emergency, fire and first-aid equipment.
Reports discipline problems to the Supervisor of Transportation.
Promotes constructive good behavior on the part of students on the school bus.
Creates an atmosphere of mutual respect among students and between students and driver.
Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of student behavior.
Participates in in-service activities.
Shares in responsibility for an outstanding transportation program.
Supports Solon City Schools’ transportation procedures and policies.
Maintains accurate records and provides written reports as required.
Contributes to a positive school-community relationship.
Is courteous and aware of other drivers on the highway.
Is aware and knowledgeable of two-way radio communication systems.
Is aware and conscious of special health or handicap problems of children on the school bus.
Picks up and discharges students only at authorized stops.
Accepts responsibility for continued improvement in the transportation program.
Reports all accidents immediately to proper authorities and completes required reports.
Transports only authorized students.
Performs other such duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.
