A Somat Soils & Aggregate Inspector has the responsibility for performing Materials Quality Assurance Inspection and Testing in the field. This individual is required to have experience working on large scale roadway construction sites while operating a nuclear gauge for the assessment of various construction materials. A Somat compaction technician performs a variety of standardized tests using established methods, prepares test specimens, adjusts and operates testing equipment, and records test data.
Typical Duties Include
- Performing in-place compaction testing to monitor the placement of construction materials in accordance with project compaction specifications and ODOT requirements.
- Working knowledge of ODOT compaction requirements with the ability to interpret plans and specifications.
- Monitoring concrete placement operations and performing appropriate standard field tests and molding compressive strength test specimens.
- Laboratory testing of soil and other construction materials.
- Documentation of field and laboratory data using mobile electronic devices.
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
- Experienced Soils & Aggregate Inspector working on large scale DOT roadway and bridge projects
- Prequalified as an ODOT Soils & Aggregate Inspector
- Possesses a certificate of completion for the ODOT Compaction Test
- Minimum NICET Level II Soils
- ACI certification
- Valid Driver’s License
