STUDENT ACTIVITIES MONITOR (SAM) POSITION

Primary Purpose:

To help attain district goals by ensuring student safety as described in the school safety plan and helping promote and maintain a clean campus environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Valid Texas Driver’s License, CDL preferred.

· One year of school safety experience in a full-time position preferred.

· Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check prior to starting employment.

· Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Special Knowledge/ Skills & Abilities:

General knowledge of school safety protocols

General knowledge of applicable legal protocols in a school environment

Ability to react professionally and safely under potential or actual volatile conditions.

Skill in operating a two-way radio.

Essential Functions

1. Ability to work with a team of employees and be a point of contact for all faculty.

2. Knowledge and experience in deescalating situations involving student to student and faculty to student situations.

3. Assist the school staff, law enforcement, and emergency personnel in handling

emergencies or disruptive situations

4. Assist in organizing traffic control for school crossings and events.

5. Patrols and monitors hallways, stairwells, and all other areas within and interior and

exterior of the assigned facilities to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff,

and the facility

7. Remove disruptive personnel from the premises when necessary.

8. Assist custodial/maintenance crews in maintaining a clean and safe campus. Extra duties may include power washing, painting, moving furniture and supplies.

9. Operate all equipment according to established safety procedures.

10. Perform other duties as assigned.

11. Ensure SAC staff, visitors, and contractors wear and property display

identification badges when in the facility and assist with directions when needed.

12. Notify the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency

personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations (i.e.

discipline infractions, evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect,

severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to

be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, unauthorized visitors,

acts of vandalism or similar incidents.)

13. Promotes and displays positive behavior, attitude, and professionalism towards

all SAC staff, students, parents, visitors, outside agencies, and contractors.

14. Ensures attire and grooming is professional in nature and properly maintains the

uniform and equipment must remain in good working condition.

15. Maintains a high level of confidentiality of records and information about staff or

students and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal

confines.

16. Provides security during SAC athletic events, special events, and other

activities/events that may be outside the normal duty time which may include

weekends.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

· Lifts 5-25 pounds frequently, 25–100 pounds occasionally, more than 100 pounds infrequently.

· Maintain emotional control under stress.

· Strenuous walking, standing running, and climbing; continual setting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions if on drive assignment, ability to operate a motor vehicle if on drive assignment; specific hearing and visual requirements; moderate pushing, pulling, and carrying; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.

· May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions.

· Work outdoors in varying climate conditions.
