Job Overview
We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Operator Trainees. This entry-level position is designed for those looking to build a career in operations within the wastewater treatment industry. As an Operator Trainee, you will receive hands-on training and mentorship while learning to operate and maintain various systems and equipment. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our facilities.
Duties
- Performs chemical analysis of effluent during the different stages of treatment, such as raw sewage, primary effluent, final effluent, returned sludge, and mixed liquor. Performs physical and chemical tests, such as tests to determine the percentage of soluble solids, suspended solids, and volatile solids; PH and alkalinity tests on activated sludge; chlorine residual tests on final effluent; dissolved oxygen tests.
- Determines percentage of waste in returned sludge, digestor gas production, consumption and waste.
- Takes meter and gauge readings at regularly scheduled intervals; makes written records on the results of all chemical and physical analysis.
- Makes hourly inspection of plant; checks all pumps, valves, tanks, settling tank chains, motors and other equipment.
- Performs minor maintenance as required and calls mechanic or plant supervisor in case of major equipment breakdown. In emergency situations, activates bypass procedures.
- Performs various house-keeping duties: sweeping, mopping, dusting, painting, lawn mowing and snow shoveling.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduation from a standard senior high school with some course work in mechanical or electrical repair work, or in routine chemical analysis, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- No prior experience is required; however, a strong willingness to learn is essential. A valid sewage plant operator's license issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources is a plus.
- Familiarity with wastewater treatment processes or related fields is a plus but not mandatory.
- Basic understanding of equipment repair and maintenance will be beneficial.
- Candidates should possess a keen interest in developing skills related to data collection, analysis, and operational procedures.
Special Qualifications
- Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of Pennsylvania.

Pay: $19.69 - $22.92 per hour
