Position Summary
The Grounds Worker maintains grounds, including preparation of soil, seeding, rolling, weeding, and mowing lawns, planting, pruning of trees and shrubs, spraying, and trimming, including the operation of equipment to accomplish duties. During winter season, is responsible for snow removal. Provides support to other divisions as necessary.
This position is essential to the emergency service function of the division and is required to assist the department or division in meeting the operational needs.

During winter season, is responsible for snow removal. Provides support to other divisions as necessary.
This position is essential to the emergency service function of the division and is required to assist the department or division in meeting the operational needs.
Essential Functions
- Mows, weeds, edges, and fertilizers lawns and/or flowerbeds.
- Maintains grounds, including parking deck and lots, free of refuse, which may include the operation of a street sweeper or other equipment.
- Rakes leaves and debris.
- Prunes trees and shrubs.
- Clear catch basins.
- Prepares soil for planting which may include the operation of a front-end loader, backhoe or other equipment.
- Plants, thins, and transplants shrubs and flowers.
- Sprays herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, etc.
- During winter season a major responsibility of this position is snow removal. Shovels snow and/or operates all types of equipment used in snow removal. Salts and sands stairways and sidewalks.
- Assists in the routine repair of ornamental objects or recreational equipment.
- Maintains the shop area in a clean and safe manner.
- May be assigned work of other crafts as needed or in an emergency situation
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance.
- A valid New Jersey Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
- Class B CDL required or the ability to obtain a CDL within the 90-day probationary period.
- Knowledge of landscaping and design.
- Knowledge of gas and electric power equipment.
- Ability to operate all types of snow removal equipment and knowledge of proper techniques involved in snow removal.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and take safety precautions in performing the work.
- A valid Pesticide Applicator's License (CPA)
