What are the responsibilities and job description for the IEP Clerk position at Somerset County Public Schools?
I. Summary
Provides clerical support to the Special Education team at the designated school. Ensures tasks are performed accurately and efficiently. This is a 10 month position with full time benefits.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education, Special Education teachers, and building principal.
Prepares correspondence for Special Ed Department.
- Copies all IEP’s and other information as requested by parents and/or other agencies.
- Maintains an IEP meeting schedule calendar and notifies appropriate staff of all scheduled meetings.
- Serves as a backup receptionist for school, answering phones, taking messages and greeting the public. Ensures that all visitors are identified for safety purposes.
- Makes appropriate contacts for IEP meetings.
- Compiles reports and data as required by the Supervisor of Special Education.
- Assists staff with accommodation programs such as Kurzweil and Boardmaker.
- Schedules and reserves meeting rooms for related meetings.
- Prepares handbooks and other published material as necessary.
- Processes daily attendance records.

A. Education and/or Experience
A high school diploma or GED is required. Must have at least three years clerical experience or be able to demonstrate required skills.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A valid driver’s license is preferred.
C. Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional and trade journals. Ability to write letters and memorandums, handbooks and procedure manuals as directed. Ability to effectively present information orally and in writing as required.
D. Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply concepts of basic arithmetic principles.
E. Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to remain calm under pressure and listen to issues and concerns from parents and staff in a positive manner.
F. Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is preferred. Must have good keyboarding skills. Pursues training and development opportunities to expand job knowledge as requested.
G. Other Skills and Abilities
Must be able to work with minimal supervision and possess strong organizational, time management and self motivation skills. Must have working knowledge of all office equipment. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate with a variety of individuals with different backgrounds and cultures. Must have excellent telephone etiquette with ability to properly screen and direct calls.
H. Other Qualifications
Must be dependable. Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent. Arrives to work and meetings on time. Must have transportation to attend meetings at various in-county sites.
