About the Position
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Library Media Specialist to join our team at Somerset County Public Schools. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing an effective library program that supports the mission, philosophy, vision, and goals of the school system.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and implements an effective library program which supports the mission, philosophy, vision, and goals of the school system.
- Provides advisory services on matters pertaining to library media programs to individual faculties and staff.
- Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to build and maintain a media collection that meets the learning needs of all students.
- Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the media center acquires.
- Evaluates school media programs and plans for necessary changes.
- Serves on curriculum committees and participates in curriculum development which integrates State Library Media Standards across the curriculum.
- Provides dissemination of educational information to the professional staff, in addition to providing a professional library in the media center.
- Assumes responsibility for local and state media reports and surveys.
- Collaborates with other libraries in the community.
- Instructs students and teachers in the use of the media center and its materials.
- Trains student library helpers and volunteers where appropriate.
- Provides guidance with reference questions.
