What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Coordinator position at Somerset County Public Schools?
Applications are being accepted to serve as a Mental Health Coordinator for the school district. This is a 12 month position will full time benefits.
Summary – This person is responsible for coordinating student mental health services and referral procedures. Working with community-based mental health provider, the individual will implement and monitor student mental health services in order to improve student achievement. The individual will develop and deliver professional development programs to staff that are following the requirements of the Safe to Learn Act of 2018. This is a 12 month position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor of Student Services or his/her designee.
- Implements mental health services and supports and provides oversight of appropriate mental health strategies to meet the needs of students with mental health challenges.
- Develops partnerships with central office staff, school-based administrators, general and special education service providers and related service providers in order to identify students with mental health challenges.
- Coordinates school-based mental health support to include modeling and identifying effective mental health supports and interventions.
- Keeps current with research related to effective mental health interventions and strategies that support students with mental health challenges and those at-risk for developing mental health challenges.
- Maintains appropriate data regarding the number of students referred for mental health services, needs of students, tiers of services delivered, placement of students, parent involvement, needs of staff, etc.
- Monitors the implementation of mental health services and supports to assure consistency across schools, articulation amount schools, and compliance with Board policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Monitors special education procedures as related to mental health supports and interventions to assure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Research, monitor and submit grant requests for external funding for mental health and wraparound services.
- Assists with the school crisis plan.
- Participates in school system and community activities to inform the public of school mental health services and to facilitate community partnerships in education.
- Provides Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid Training or arranges for training.
- Maintains training records for staff.
- Assists with the district-wide Behavior Threat Assessment process and data collection.
- Co-chairs the Student Support Steering Committee
- Assists with the oversight, training and implementation of district-wide Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS).
- Participates in local and state meetings that support the behavioral health needs of students.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in mental health services such as psychology, counseling, social work or related field.
Five years of related work experience is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A valid driver’s license is required.
Language Skills
Must be able to communicate orally and in writing effectively to a diverse general public.
Mathematical Skills
Must have general math skills with ability to manage a budget.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to work effectively with others in all situations as well as must exhibit independent decision making skills.
Computer Skills
Excellent computer skills in all Microsoft Office software products. Must be able to operate all office machinery.
Other Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the school system and the demographics of the County are preferred.
Other Qualifications
