Position/Summary:
The Somerset County Intoxicated Driver Resource Center (IDRC) operates a court-mandated 12-hour program for persons convicted of alcohol or drug-related driving or boating offenses. The IDRC detains, educates, and screens all participants. Based upon screening criteria, participants may be referred to a substance use disorder treatment provider for further evaluation. If referred and treatment is recommended, the IDRC will monitor enrollment in treatment services. The IDRC is also responsible for reporting instances of non-compliance to the sentencing court and the New Jersey Intoxicated Driving Program (IDP).
As an IDRC team member, the responsibilities of the Program Specialist include assisting in all clerical aspects of the IDRC program to ensure the efficient operation of the IDRC by treating all consumers with respect, scheduling of DUI offenders in a timely manner, proper monitoring of affiliated agencies, case management, abiding by state regulations of N.J.A.C. 10:162, and upholding federal confidentiality laws (42 CFR Part 2) regarding release of client information.
Responsibilities:
- Answer/return all incoming phone calls. Respond to inquiries from clients who walk in as well as other entities such as agencies, courts, state, public, etc.
- Manage two state database systems.
- Construct client charts for each class including MVC driver abstract searches and contact with Court to ensure proper scheduling.
- Assist in processing, filing, copying, printing, faxing, and mailing of documents/correspondence as well as maintenance of office supplies/machinery/equipment.
- Engage in cross-training in other support staff functions to cover positions as required by Program Administrator or Addiction Services Director.
- Data entry including pre/post test results, course evaluations, class session statistics, records retention, client transfers, etc.
- Review treatment records for completeness and accuracy. Follow up with agencies regarding client status.
- Develop policies surrounding daily operations and IDRC curriculum.
- Set up classroom for two days per week on bi-monthly basis, including technology preparation, technical assistance, preparation of forms, resource table display, etc.
- Knowledge and understanding of IDRC Program Administrator position responsibilities in order to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Attend and participate collaboratively in all departmental meetings and educational in-services. Participates in any classes or trainings offered by the County to enhance performance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience working in substance use/mental health field
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including crisis management with the ability to deescalate situations
- Knowledge of and ability to use computer for data entry & analysis. Proficient in Microsoft Office computer programs and other systems including state databases.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented
- Comprehensive and complete understanding of legislation and regulations that pertain to the IDRC
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with clients and visitors
