About the role:
The Cost Accountant will serve the company focusing on accounting processes. This role will prepare operational costs and analysis for the company, ensuring records are accurate.
The position will report to the VP, Finance.
Responsibilities
- Collecting and analyzing data about a company’s operational costs.
- Setting standard costs of manufactured goods.
- Developing and analyzing cost standards.
- Carrying out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis.
- Establishing costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, etc.
- Performing account reconciliations.
- Preparing audit reports and presenting their findings to management.
- Recommending changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit.
- Supporting other company accountants and operations on capital expenditure.
- Reviews work order transactions to identify costing errors. Root Cause Analysis.
- Analyzes cost variance analysis and compares actual to system standards for both material and labor.
- Assists operations with ad hoc analysis on special projects.
- Assists with month-end and year-end inventories.
- Validate accuracy of the inventory balances at the item and transaction level.
- Reviews, analyzes, and reports actual job profit margins.
- Determines current cost of projects by confirming project budgets with project leadership, establishing standard reconciliation process, and verifying progress of project.
- Calculate slow moving and obsolescence reserve to be reviewed by the management team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with financial statements.
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient in utilizing and interpreting financial analysis.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Five years’ experience as a Cost Accountant, preferably in an industrial manufacturing setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- Intermediate understanding of accounting and reporting standards, gaining experience in researching as it relates to accounting issues.
- Experience with accounting ERP software is a plus.
- Knowledge of MS Office, and excellent skills in Excel.
Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
