TYPE: Classified STATUS: Non-Exempt SALARY LEVEL: ($14.71, full health benefits package) CALENDAR: 261 Day, 8 hours per day START DATE: April 2025
REPORTS TO: Schools Principals – Custodial / Grounds Supervisor - Director of Buildings and Grounds Maintenance.
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs duties to keep assigned grounds and custodial areas cleaned and maintained for Somerton School District No. 11.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Cleans assigned area. Cleans restrooms. Sweeps, mops and waxes floors. Cleans mirrors and windows. Cleans office areas. Empty trash. Moves, arranges and cleans office furniture. Vacuum carpets and floors. Performs basic building maintenance. Fixes loose carpet, broken windows and doors and makes adjustments to equipment as needed.
Stores custodial equipment and supplies. Conducts major cleaning during off school times including stripping and waxing floors, cleaning carpets and classrooms. Sets up a cafeteria for assemblies and other events. Assists with school programs and activities as needed. Accessible to work schedule change; morning, evening or weekend as needed. Assists with groundskeeper duties as needed. Assists with assembling equipment, furniture and other items as required and performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of custodial practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of machinery, equipment and tools necessary for cleaning public school buildings.
Knowledge of cleaning methods for floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skill in cleaning and maintaining public school facilities.
Skill in utilizing materials, equipment and methods safely, efficiently and according to predetermined standards.
Skill in safely using and maintaining equipment and tools to complete assigned projects.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in working cooperatively with others.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to moving equipment, extreme weather conditions, heights, toxic fumes and chemicals, and infectious diseases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year custodial experience. Must possess an Arizona driver license and demonstrate fluency in English. Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District. Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP) required at the time of hiring.
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both English and Spanish as a condition of employment.
