Position Overview:
Somos IWT Inc. is seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Technician to support the assembly, installation, commissioning, and servicing of advanced diamond wire saw systems at our customer facility in Sumter, SC. This role involves integrating complex electro-mechanical subsystems, executing final system assembly, conducting rigorous testing and troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with electrical, mechanical, and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation, industrial machinery, and control systems, with the ability to interpret engineering schematics and work independently in a high-precision environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Assembly & Integration:
- Perform precise mechanical assembly of components and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
- Install, wire, and terminate high- and low-voltage electrical panels per engineering schematics and safety regulations.
- Integrate PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, and other automation components into fully functional systems.
- Programming & Configuration:
- Perform basic PLC, HMI, and drive programming for system operation and troubleshooting.
- Configure and test automation hardware to ensure seamless system performance.
- Testing, Troubleshooting & Commissioning:
- Conduct comprehensive testing of assemblies to verify proper function and diagnose electrical, mechanical, or software issues.
- Troubleshoot motor controls, sensors, power distribution, and automation systems.
- Implement corrective actions in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all work adheres to NFPA 70E, OSHA, and other electrical/mechanical safety standards.
- Follow standard industrial safety procedures, including proper PPE usage and lockout/tagout protocols.
- Communication & Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of assembly procedures, test results, modifications, and system configurations.
- Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and solutions to the Somos-IWT lead in Sumter and appropriate stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and field service teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Education & Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification or vocational training preferred).
- Additional training in industrial automation, mechatronics, or electrical systems is highly desirable.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electro-mechanical assembly, electrical panel wiring, and mechanical integration within an industrial setting.
- Experience working with high- and low-voltage electrical systems, motor controls, and automation equipment.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Hands-on experience with servo motors, VFDs, HMIs, PLCs, and motion control systems.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving automation-related faults.
- Ability to use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot electrical circuits.
- Skilled in assembling precision mechanical components, including bearings, gears, and linear motion systems.
- Work Ethic & Problem-Solving:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high-precision environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and system reliability.
- Effective communication skills for reporting technical findings and collaborating with engineering teams.
Additional Details:
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (8-hour shift) with occasional unplanned overtime.
- Travel: Occasional travel to Colorado Springs, CO, as required.
- Work Location: Customer facility in Sumter, SC.
- Preferred Experience: 2 years of assembly and testing experience in automation, industrial machinery, or related fields.
