Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Vice President, FP&A in our our North America Insurance Financial Planning and Analysis team.

This role will be a key member of the North America Business and Finance leadership team, partnering directly with key functional leaders. The position responsibility by ensuring accurate and timely achievement of financial reports, collaborating with key stakeholders on opportunities for continuous improvement and providing strategy and vision around the financial planning processes.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide strategic support, influence and evaluation of the results for the North America Insurance business, including preparing and reviewing materials for Executive Management Team meetings. Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Lead the planning, budgeting, forecasting and quarterly business review processes for North America Insurance across all Product Towers and countries working across a complex structure often utilizing influence and personal relationships to achieve results.
  • Oversee capital and liquidity cash flow forecasting for North America operations.
  • Leverage analytics and business insight to drive change through targeted profitability and expense reviews.
  • Drive standardization and excellence in reporting and analytics for North America Insurance products, including partnering with North America Operations to enhance the usability of PowerBI for financial data.
  • Partner with Finance and cross-functional support teams in providing the tools necessary to meet the company’s financial objectives and various business initiatives as driven by Sompo’s CEO and Executive Management Team.
  • Interpret and clearly communicate financial results to all key stakeholders. Ensure credibility of financial results by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Model out ad-hoc pro-formas and scenario analysis, as needed
  • Assist with enhancing the general ledger data environment and integrating new regions and products.
  • Facilitate effective decision-making and provide vision by analyzing external benchmarks, financial information, industry and economic conditions

What You’ll Bring

  • An MBA or internationally recognized accounting qualification (e.g. CA or CPA) with at least 15 years post-qualification experience, including experience in reinsurance/insurance companies, 10 years of progressively increasing responsibility in US GAAP/IFRS accounting and reporting experience, including in the property & casualty reinsurance/insurance industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statements)
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare cash flow projections.
  • Clearly presents ideas and concepts (orally and written) and influences outcomes
  • Effective at building and maintaining long-term, positive working relationships. Dynamic and motivated individual, capable of handling complex structured tasks that require close attention to timing and detail, as well as unplanned projects and challenges that require effective and unique solutions, often in a compressed timeframe.
  • Results-oriented and disciplined approach to achieving financial and business objectives, leveraging a high level of financial acumen
  • Experience with and exposure to various operational disciplines (underwriting, claims, IT, etc.) to ensure that FP&A/Finance is communicating between units and capturing all required information for downstream financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of the latest finance and accounting software, tools and best practices.
  • Ability to work within a global structure where certain core functions are modeled as shared services and managed by a corporate group.
  • Ability to obtain multiple assessments of a situation, review facts, weigh options, and recommend most advantageous course of action to influence business results and solve problems
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic, with a willingness to “roll up sleeves” when necessary and dive deep into accounting, reporting, and/or other financial issues.
  • Demonstrate management range, including being a broad, strategic leader, but also staying close to the details.
  • Must be able to lead through influence, rather than authority only.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with a natural ability to gain the support and trust of colleagues at all levels, including at executive and Board.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and agility. Able to be effective in a fast paced changing organization, remaining calm and thoughtful, yet decisive under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, adept at sharing ideas and information across the organization in order to drive business.

Salary Range: $190,000 – $240,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
