Job Description and Key Responsibilities
This position will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager. As an Electrical Engineer at Sonatech you will play a critical role in researching, designing, developing, and testing electronic components that will be integrated into the next generation of underwater acoustics systems. You will be expected to collaborate closely with other departments to transform concepts into fully functional designs, ensuring that all components meet performance, reliability, and regulatory standards.
- Be part of a team that transforms concepts into fully functional designs based on specification requirements, incorporating input from customers and collaborating with engineers across multiple disciplines.
- Design analog and digital circuits to support acoustic navigation and location devices.
- Design and develop schematics and PCB layouts for components like sensors, microcontrollers, power supplies, amplifiers, FPGAs and communication interfaces.
- Participate in the integration of FPGAs and other programmable devices into system designs.
- Conduct design analysis and create circuit-level tests to validate designs, including thermal effects and power dissipation.
- Generate design description, engineering change, prototype and manufacturing test documentation.
- Develop or specify test methods and associated test equipment to verify board functionality.
- Help prepare and present design reviews, including PDR (Preliminary Design Review) and CDR (Critical Design Review) activities, to ensure designs meet all specifications and customer requirements.
Required Education and Basic Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years' professional experience in a related field
- General knowledge of both analog and digital electronics circuitry
- Proficiency with schematic capture software, manufacturing support tools, and planning and control software
- Proficiency in operating electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc.)
Preferred Skills
- Microsoft Office 365, Altium, SolidWorks, MATLAB, and LabView
- Knowledge of FPGA design methods
- High speed as well as low power design experience
Required Citizenship and Security Clearance
- US Citizenship is required
- Secret or Ability to obtain clearance
