The general schedule for this position after training is complete is Monday to Friday 6:00 PM to 2:00 PM

SUMMARY

 

The primary purpose of the maintenance technician is to ensure the continuous operation and upkeep of machinery, equipment, and facility systems. The maintenance technician plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and productive work environment by addressing mechanical, electrical and operational issues promptly, safely and effectively. Work is performed under the general direction of the maintenance manager.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Please note that this list is ILLUSTRATIVE only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by an incumbent in this role. Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments; troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, conveyor, and pneumatic systems on a variety of production equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections of machinery, equipment, and facility systems to identify and resolve issues before they cause production delays; conduct preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment according to established schedules to reduce the likelihood of equipment failure.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices by using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examine form and texture of parts; determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment; conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. 
  • Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production; control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Assist with the installation, testing, and calibration of new equipment or systems.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs; maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and parts used.
  • Provide mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Follow safety procedures and practices to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with company policies, practices and values
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Sufficient manual dexterity
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 20 lbs. and push/pull up to 75 lbs.; occasionally lift up to 75 lbs., carry up to 50 lbs., and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to stand continuously for one hour or more during shift duration
  • Ability to walk for up to 1.5 cumulative hours during shift duration.
  • Sufficient body flexibility and balance which require repeated bending and stooping motions, including climbing and working on ladders.
  • Sufficient attention to concentrate and complete tasks when distracted.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Typical working conditions are exposed to moderate noise but at times may be exposed to loud and excessive noise
  • Temperatures within the warehouse are generally moderate; however, an incumbent in this class may occasionally be exposed to temperatures that are significantly warm or cold
  • An incumbent in this class may be exposed to dirt, dust, and debris
  • An incumbent in this class may be required to work at heights of up to 40 feet
  • Local travel may be required; additional travel outside the area for training purposes may also be required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Mechanical systems, including but not limited to, gears, motors, conveyors, and pumps
  • Electrical systems, circuits, wiring diagrams, and safety standards; familiarity with troubleshooting electrical components such as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives)
  • Basic plumbing practices to help troubleshoot plumbing systems
  • Preventive maintenance processes and schedules
  • Safety Regulations including OSHA standards, plant safety policies, and safe work practices.

SKILL AND ABILITY TO:

  • Identify, diagnose and troubleshoot the root cause of equipment malfunctions and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and machinery to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Repair and replace parts, adjust equipment, and perform detailed mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and equipment schematics to guide repair and installation.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple maintenance tasks to meet production demands.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections while ensuring compliance with plant requirements.
  • Think critically and make sound decisions under pressure to quickly address equipment failures and production interruptions.
  • Have a high level of attention to detail to ensure work is completed correctly and safely
  • Adapt to new technologies, processes, and changes in the work environment, including the installation of new equipment or changes to existing systems.
  • Safely operate a vehicle and forklift
  • Work from scaffolding, ladders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Operate a PC and use email and Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting production and other departments to meet department and plant goals.
  • Handle and prioritize multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, or on-call shifts as required
  • Effectively communicate in professional manner both orally and in writing
  • Positively and professionally represent the company
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Technical certification or associate’s degree in industrial maintenance, electrical, or mechanical engineering (preferred), or
  • A minimum of 3 years of job-related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license
