This posting is for those interested in teaching in our Spanish Immersion programs at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School level for the 2025-2026 school year. 

Elementary Spanish Immersion

The specialized language immersion program allows English-proficient students to become bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish. Students attending the immersion program receive all classroom instruction in Spanish beginning in kindergarten. Students gain understanding and develop language proficiency through exposure to and practice with the language. English language arts are introduced beginning in 3rd - 5th grade.

All applicants must have a high level of fluency in Spanish in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

What Makes You a Good Fit?

• Bachelor's degree required.
• South Dakota certification or licensure with endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment required. As part of the certification requirements with the Department of Education, candidates must submit a Foreign Credential Evaluation. To do this, candidates can use any NACES or AICE approved agencies. Get started with this today to help expedite future processes!
• Successful student teaching or experience teaching in a Spanish learning environment.
• Native or near native Spanish skills with the ability to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish and English.
• Meet District Spanish language competency standards for oral and written proficiency established through objective means selected by the District and through lesson demonstration.

• Compensation: Starting at $52,233 to $58,823, based on experience. Please note, this is based on the 2024-25 salary schedule. 2025-26 salary schedule coming soon!
