LABORATORY SPECIMEN PROCESSOR I (CROSS SHIFT)

The Pre-Analytical Department is a change of pace from the high stress hospital laboratory or overnight shift. As a Laboratory Specimen Processor I in the Pre-Analytical Department, you will accurately handle and process all laboratory specimens and ensure specimen integrity by adhering to laboratory procedures.

Hours : 11am-7 : 30pm Tuesday through Saturday

Duties & Responsibilities :

Responsibilities of the positions include data entry and lab assistant duties. Acts as liaison between laboratory personnel and upper management. Maintains departmental operating policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance and safety. Reviews receipt of specimens receipt from all patient service centers, in-office phlebotomists and clients. Ensures all specimens are processed, data entered and shipped in accordance with company guidelines and meets shipment deadlines. Takes remedial action when indicated. Communicate effectively in verbal and written forms.

EDUCATION : Associate Degree or Phlebotomy Certification with High School Diploma

Preferred : Bachelors Degree in a biological science or certification in a medical program technologist program

EXPERIENCE : Two years of laboratory training or experience in specimen collection and processing. Data entry experience in a production environment

JOB FUNCTIONS / DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Open and verify check shipper sample types and ensure empty
• Complete Specimen receipt logs
• Specimen Receipt and forward problem samples / orders to exception handling
• Identify Issues (Ordering, Labeling, Specimen)
• Aliquoting of samples
• Discard, Archive (All of storage components)
• End of shift checklist : benches, staging and archiving units, shippers, biohazard bins

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical reports. Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents, memos and required correspondence. Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methods. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and with laboratory customers. Typing skills; proficiency with 10 key.

Physical Requirements :

This position requires some lifting, up to 50 lbs. Frequently carrying objects up to 10 lbs. This position also requires some pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, bending, and sitting for extended periods. Frequent repetitive hand and arm movement, eye-hand-foot coordination, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, balance, depth perception, hearing acuity, color vision, and near and far vision acuity are also required.

Work Conditions :

Indoor temperature controlled environment with occasional exposure to biological and chemical hazards.

Hazards : Exposure to toxic / caustic / chemicals / detergents. Exposure to moving mechanical parts. Exposure to communicable diseases. Exposure to blood borne pathogens. Gaseous exposure risk. All safety equipment and personal protective equipment is provided.
