What are the responsibilities and job description for the State and Local Tax Manager position at Sono Bello?
This position is based on-site in Greater Seattle Area.
The State and Local Tax Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of state and local tax compliance for the organization. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of state and local tax laws. The SALT Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide tax strategies, ensure compliance, and support the organization’s business objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Tax Compliance: Manage the preparation and review of franchise, sales/use, property, and gross receipts tax returns and business licensing. Oversee outsourced compliance of state and local income tax returns and manage vendor relationships.
- Audit Support: Manage state and local tax audits, including gathering information, responding to auditor requests, timely resolution of issues.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of tax filings and audits. Automate and streamline recurring calculations and develop standard work to support new processes.
- Risk Management: Assess and manage risks related to state and local tax matters, ensuring accurate interpretation of tax laws and regulations.
- Special Projects: Participate in or lead special projects as assigned, such as nexus studies, voluntary disclosure agreements, and tax incentives research.
- Other: Serve as a backup designee for select treasury functions to ensure seamless support to the team during absences or high-demand periods.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive corporate or public accounting experience in state and local income and indirect tax for corporate and partnership entities.
- Certifications: CPA, JD, or other relevant certifications preferred.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-experts.

Proficiency with tax preparation software and research tools. Experience with Avatax is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work onsite at the Corporate Office in Kirkland, WA a minimum of 2-3 days a week.
COMPENSATION:
At Sono Bello, we believe that our team members are the keys to our success. The compensation range for this role is $106,000 - $133,000 Bonus.
