The Accountant - Shared Services, provides accounting support to various departments within the Sonoco business. This position prepares journal entries, balance sheet schedules, financial statements, variance analysis, budget reports, and other monthly accounting functions as assigned. The Accounting Specialist also assists in year-end audit preparation and special projects.

- Assist in monthly general ledger activities such as processing accruals, prepayments, unapplied expenses, prepaid assets, and miscellaneous journals.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet schedules including reconciliations for fixed assets, intangibles, goodwill, long term liabilities, and intercompany balances.
- Prepare monthly income statement accounts and schedule analysis including revenue, cost of goods sold, gross profit, operating expenses, net sales margins, selling, general & administrative expense, etc.
- Review and process vendor/customer statements and invoices on a timely basis.
- Review and process employee travel and expense reports on a timely basis.
- Process payroll transactions on a timely basis and prepare related reporting.
- Assist in monthly bank reconciliations, collections, cash management, and other duties as required.
- Assist with quarterly reviews of Inventory Valuation Reserve calculations and reporting.
- Assist with annual compliance reporting, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls testing.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
- Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are needed.
- Travel may be required up to 10% of time.
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
This position is in our Hartsville, SC Headquarters location, and can also be performed in the Charlotte, NC office.
This is a progression position and level will be based on candidate experience and business needs.
Compensation:
Accountant I: The annual base salary range for this role is from $51,040 to $57,420
Accountant II: The annual base salary range for this role is from $62,560 to $70,380
